The Landhuis and the plantation date from the early 18th century. Livestock was kept on the plantation and corn and beans were grown that served as food for the slaves and cattle. Another part of the products, such as fruits, dairy products and beef cattle, was sold to the inhabitants of the city and those on board ships that called at Cura\u00e7ao. We no longer have the large plantations of the past, but in the small ‘hofi’ behind the country house, plantains, papaya and local basil are now mainly grown for use in the restaurant.<\/p>\n

The name ” Brakke Put ” means spring with brackish water. ‘Mei Mei’ means ‘in the middle’ in the local language, Papiamentu. On Brakkeput you also have a country house Brakkeput Ariba (above) and Brakkeput Abao (below).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Het Landhuis en de plantage dateren uit het begin van de 18e eeuw. Op de plantage hield men vee en er werden ma\u00efs en bonen verbouwd die als voedsel dienden voor de slaven en het vee. Een ander deel van de producten zoals vruchten, zuivelproducten en slachtvee, werd verkocht aan de stadsbewoners en de opvarenden van schepen die Cura\u00e7ao aandeden. De grote plantages van vroeger hebben we al lang niet meer, maar in de kleine \u2018hofi\u2019 achter het landhuis worden nu vooral bakbananen, papaya en lokale basilicum verbouwd voor gebruik in het restaurant.<\/p>

De naam \u2018\u2019 Brakke Put \u2018\u2019 betekent bron met brak water. \u2018Mei Mei\u2019 betekent in de lokale taal, Papiamentu \u2018in het midden\u2019. Op Brakkeput heb je namelijk ook een landhuis Brakkeput Ariba (boven) en Brakkeput Abao (onder).<\/p><\/div>
